Rick Eckerd

Rick Eckerd received his art degree from Tulane University, before beginning years of study and "residency" at the Penland School of Crafts, Pilchuck Glass School, and the Rochester Institute of Technology. His best known pieces are colorful, complex, nonfunctional vessel-like objects. "The long historic relationship of glass as a material, with things like teapots, pitchers, glasses, etc, provides an endless resource for metaphor." Rick's teapots combine cast geometric components with hot-sculpted shapes that serve as handles, spouts, feet, and other appendages. Every teapot has a sense of motion and fluidity, and a distinct personality.
