Tentacle Platter
Description
Elevate your serving game with this artisan-made “Tentacle Platter” by Anja Bartels. Anja’s nautical surface designs are inspired by her love of the ocean and her childhood memories of growing up in a port city on the North Sea. Each platter is hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel, then painted with a dark underglaze that is scraped away (using a technique called sgraffito) to reveal the porcelain underneath. The center of the platter is painted with a gorgeous ocean-blue glaze.
About Anja Bartels
Originally from Hamburg, Germany, Anja discovered pottery making while living in an intentional community in Virginia. This sparked a passion that led her back to Germany to study in the German Ceramics Guild. After completing a rigorous three-year apprenticeship with a master potter, she received her journeyman ceramics degree from the German Chamber of Crafts and Trades. She is now an artist-in-residence at Odyssey ClayWorks in Asheville.
