Vertical Sea Urchin Cup

Description

Anja Bartels, an artist based in Asheville, specializes in the creation of exquisite porcelain pottery, drawing inspiration from the marine environment. These cups were hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel and then decorated with dozens of tiny porcelain spikes to resemble a sea urchin shell. This technique, called slip trailing. This method involves the application of liquefied porcelain using a precise surgical bulb, necessitating a stable hand and ample patience.
