About the Artist
John Parkinson is a seasoned craftsman with over 35 years of woodworking expertise. Specializing in high-quality custom furniture, he meticulously designs each piece with clean, elegant lines. His work is marked by subtle details and accents, which significantly enhance the overall visual vitality of his creations.
John’s journey into woodworking began in the North East of England, where his father introduced him to the craft. Upon completing school, John pursued a traditional woodworking apprenticeship at Newcastle College, finishing a four-year City & Guilds Institute course in 1980. For 25 years, he worked as a journeyman woodworker, crafting everything from kitchen cabinets to fine furniture. These years of working alongside many skilled craftsmen allowed him to refine his skills and gather the experience necessary to create the fine furniture he makes today.
In 2005, he relocated to Austin, Texas, and founded John Parkinson Furniture. During his decade-long stay in Austin, he regularly participated in the annual West Austin Studio Tour and began offering classes to share his expertise. In 2015, he moved to Durham, NC, where he continues to create heirloom-quality custom furniture and educate others in the art of woodworking.
