Blue Mountain – Sculptural Form
Description
Daniel Scogna’s inspiration comes from textures and patterns found in nature. The imagery on his blown glass is accomplished through processes he has adapted and modified from enameling techniques. The crossover of these techniques and methods is atypical of the glassblowing process. This non-traditional approach allows him to draw imagery onto the hot glass by hand and vary the surface texture by applying color during different stages of the blowing process.
“My work embodies a fascination with seasonal changes on the landscape. I find the textures and patterns found in nature a constant inspiration.”
Daniel has been blowing glass since 1988. He earned a BFA in glass from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA in glass from Illinois State University. He furthered his studies at the renowned Penland School of Craft and The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass. In 2002 and 2003, he served as the interim Head of the Glass Department at Illinois State University.
