Dawn In Blue
Description
Shawn Krueger is a contemporary landscape painter whose work masterfully merges the aesthetics of American Tonalism with the principles of the Arts & Crafts movement. A graduate of Calvin College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (1998), Krueger studied under the esteemed artist Chris Stoffel Overvoorde, refining his artistic vision and technical skills. Following graduation, he embarked on frequent travels to the United Kingdom, capturing the diverse landscapes of nearly every corner of Great Britain.
Now based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he maintains his home studio, Krueger draws inspiration from the natural beauty of Western North Carolina’s mountains, the shores of Lake Huron, and woodland scenes wherever they may be found. These settings serve as the foundation for his most recent work, reflecting his deep connection to nature and place.
Krueger was juried into the esteemed Roycrofters At-Large Artisan Guild (RALA) in East Aurora, NY, in 2016 and achieved the prestigious title of Master Artisan in 2021. In 2019, he was invited to become a signature member of the American Tonalist Society and participated in its inaugural exhibition, Shades of Gray, at the Salmagundi Club in New York City.
Over the years, Krueger’s work has earned numerous awards and is held in private collections across the country, as well as in the permanent collections of the Michigan House of Representatives, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Gilda’s Club of Grand Rapids, Calvin College, and the Bissell Corporation. Through his studio practice and plein air explorations, Krueger remains dedicated to uncovering the poetry of the landscape, continually seeking a deeper understanding of his connection to the natural world.
