About the Artist
Tina Curry began working with clay over 30 years ago. Her sculptures are hand-built, and each has its own distinctive personality and characteristics. Tina’s signature finishes result from utilizing alternative firing techniques with natural elements. Many of her pieces are bisque fired, followed by a barrel firing that uses natural elements and/or carbon to color the pieces. Notably, she does not use traditional glazes in her work.
Tina’s artwork has achieved significant recognition, leading to commissions from notable institutions such as Zoo Knoxville in Tennessee and the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo in Alberta, Canada. In 2021, she was selected from artists across Tennessee to design and create the Governor’s Arts Awards. These biennial awards are Tennessee’s highest honor in the arts, recognizing individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the state’s arts or cultural life. In 2022, Tina was featured in the September issue of Ceramics Monthly magazine.
