Description
Made by Tom Elman from American Chestnut, this live edge shelf provides a rustic place to rest your treasures. In the early 20th century, a fungal blight decimated the population of chestnut trees across Appalachia. After more than 100 years, the tree has yet to recover in the wild, making its historically valuable wood exceptionally rare in the present.
About the Artist
Tom Elman worked in social services for much of his life, including twenty years as an acupuncture physician. With years of experience in woodworking, he now devotes himself to the creation of beautiful furniture, lamps, boxes, and musical instruments as the founder of Dragonfly Meadows.
Tom says he owes a huge debt of gratitude to Sean McKenzie, who has taught him countless ways to work smarter with wood. Inspired in part by the values of the Arts and Crafts movement, Elman aims to provide high-quality, handcrafted hardwood furniture to other wood lovers who value excellence and artistry. Appreciative of the natural resources necessary to the craft, Dragonfly Meadows has committed to donating a portion of all profits to the Nature Conservancy.
