Sipper With Serviceberry Branch

Description

I live in Atlanta, Georgia, and make pottery for use in the home. My ceramics education has included arts center classes, workshops at various craft schools, and short-term residencies at Penland School of Craft. I took my first pottery class at a community arts center in 2001. My formal degrees are a B.A. in English from Agnes Scott College and a J.D. from the University of Georgia.

My porcelain and stoneware works are simple in form, generous in volume, and decorated with colorful images of birds, plants, landscapes, and abstract patterns. These images reflect memories from my north Florida childhood, such as watching mockingbirds and red-headed woodpeckers in my grandmother’s yard, exploring a neighbor’s magical forest of camellias and pine trees, riding in the countryside and dreaming of living there one day, and reading illustrated books set in faraway places. They also reflect my love of drawings and prints, medieval art and architecture, and the work of artists such as Walter Anderson and Samuel Palmer.
